Kindle 2, Followup to October 30 Post

Kindle 2,

There was an article about Kindle in the New York Times today by Virginia Hefferman, called The Medium, Pump Up The Volume.

In my post of October 30, I listed ten benefits of the Kindle. After reading Heffernan's article, I see that there are a few more benefits and also some drawbacks.

More Kindle Benefits:
1. Kindle screen looks like newsprint
2. It is a kind of refuge since it is so remote
3. It has just enough internet capability to keep you informed in a disaster.

Disadvantages to Kindle:
1. Buttons flip the page and lose your place.
2. The keyboard is stiff
3. The white case is not pretty and easily gets dirty.
4. Not that technically savvy

Despite these disadvantages, the Kindle still requires the reader to do the thinking and concentrating of a real book, but provides some intervention from the refuge of Kindle with an internet presence even if it is weak. Heffernan concludes that the Kindle is the "right mix of book and nonbook."

As noted in the previous post, both How To Negotiate Like A Pro and How To Mediate Like A Pro are available on Kindle.
